Google has previously announced key points to increasing web page loading speeds such as giving a search result boost to simply faster loading websites (if all other things are equal).
Google’s latest announcement is a new type of file format for graphic images. Google’s goal is to increase compression without sacrificing quality. Arrive: WebP, pronounced “weppy.” Currently, the converter is available on Linux platforms; however, a Windows based converter app will be available soon. Time will tell how long it takes the rest of the web to accept and be compatible with WebP.
